I'm usually 100% against politics/religion in music, but this one song I can't resist. It's a heavy metal version of a Catholic hymn, sung in Latin. My Latin teacher mentioned it when she tried to convince us that there are some uses for Latin, I downloaded it out of curiosity and I have to say it's really great :D
Though according to my teacher, their pronunciation is terrible.

Helloween - Laudate Dominum

It's 1am and it's raining pretty heavily... There are songs that are perfect for times like this, don't you think?

Death Cab for Cutie - Transatlanticism
Assemblage 23 - Lullaby
Massive Attack - Teardrop

Aaaah, sorry for not posting anything last week, I was in hospital and I didn't have anything prepared in advance. I hope it won't happen again ♥ Anyway, for this week's post I've prepared some songs by one of my favourite bands :)

Kings of Convenience are a Norwegian duo that plays really mellow, melodic acoustic pop/rock/folk. Most of their songs are slow and soft, sung by both artists in harmony. They remind me of Simon & Garfunkel :D
Homesick
I Don't Know What I Can Save You From
Summer on the Westhill
Parallel
Gold in the Air of Summer
Manhattan Skyline
The Build-Up
Envoy

And a little bonus...
Damien Rice - Delicate

I have Kings of Convenience and Damien Rice on the same playlist, and this song started playing when I was typing up this post, so I thought I'd include it, since the style is a bit similar.

I hate waking up early. I'd do everything to be able to sleep in every day, but my university career wouldn't last long if I stopped showing up for morning classes... Fortunately, I'm one of these silly people who get up and dance whenever they hear music, so turning upbeat songs helps me get out of bed. These songs are not exactly what you'd hear at a party, but they're good for stretching a bit in the morning :)

Alanis Morissette - Let's Do It (Let's Fall In Love)
Nelly Furtado - Força
Halfcooked - Bad Reputation
Noah and the Whale - 5 Years Time
Paul Simon - You Can Call Me Al
Regina Spektor - On the Radio
Queen - Hammer to Fall

Mediafire hates me today, I'll add a download link for whole mix later :|

I've always had a weakness for songs in languages I don't understand. I suppose it's because it lets me appreciate the melody, the vocals and all of the other technical stuff rather than lyrics... Don't get me wrong - I have nothing against beautiful lyrics, but I'm always willing to overlook mediocre singing if the song has particularly good lyrics. So, here are some songs I like purely because of how they sound, not what they are about ♥

BUMP OF CHICKEN - supernova (Japanese, male vocals)
Please don't dismiss this song because of the band's unfortunate name or the language - I know there's a general belief that all Japanese music is sugary pop sung by pretty boys/girls with no musical talent, but supernova is a beautiful rock ballad sung by a rather unattractive man who has one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard. Seriously, I can't believe how much I love this song ♥ It's one of the songs I can listen to over and over all day without ever getting tired.

Coeur de Pirate - Comme des Enfants (French, female vocals)
This song reminds me of a typical French street portrayed in a movie, with little cafés, street musicians and painters, and early spring mornings. It's really sweet and soft, I like listening to it when I'm drinking my morning tea and looking out the window :)

Enya - ‘S fagaim mo bhaile (Gaelic, female vocals)
Listening to this songs always puts an image of a dark, calm night in my mind. It's one of the songs I listen to when I want to relax, and I have to say it works perfectly.

Joyce - Coração Selvagem (Portuguese, female vocals)
This song sounds like something straight out of an old movie, at least in my opinion... but I think I always associate jazzy music with old movies XD My favourite part is the last 30-40 seconds, when there aren't any lyrics, just some random 'pa ra ra ra'... at least I think it's random?

Siddharta - Napoj (Slovenian, male vocals)
The only true rock song in this mix :D (supernova is technically rock too, but it's really, really mellow) The best thing about this song (and Siddharta in general) is the fact that there are violins. Words can't express how much I love bands that use violins in rock music ♥

Vienna Teng - Green Island Serenade (Mandarin Chinese, female vocals)
It's a really beautiful lullaby ♥ I can imagine falling asleep to this and having peaceful dreams.

Regina Spektor - Après Moi (English + Russian + French, female vocals)
Okay, this song doesn't really fit this mix - it's mainly in English, but I decided to include because those few lines in Russian are the best part of the song. And well, it's a great song :) I love the creepiness and weird lyrics.

Bonus: Marek Grechuta - Kantata (Polish, male vocals)
It's a bonus because I'm a native Polish speaker and this is obviously a song I have no problem understanding, but I'm pretty sure I'm one of the few, if not the only watcher of this community who knows Polish :D I usually don't listen to Polish music - I find the language not suited for singing - but Grechuta is a true legend, everyone in Poland knows him. And for a good reason - this man was a genius.

You can download whole mix here.

I hope it's not bad for a first post ♥ Feel free to request more songs from any of the artists I uploaded here (except Joyce, Coração Selvagem is the only song by her I have) if you liked them :D
